I am already enrolled in online banking. How do I add the Flex account to my online banking?

Now that you have Flex Banking, you will need to be able to access the account through online or mobile banking.

Go to fsbank.com (accounts cannot be added through the mobile banking app), login to your online banking, select Services & Settings, select Add Account(s) and enter the Flex Banking account information, select Add Account(s) at the bottom of the screen. Allow up to two business days to access your new online banking account.

How do I control my child's Flex debit card and spending?

Download the SecurLOCK Equip Mobile App from your app store and follow the prompts to:

  • Select Sign Up Free
  • Add the Flex debit card’s information.
  • Accept the Terms and Conditions.
  • Accept the Privacy Policy.
  • Create your SecurLOCK account (username and password).
  • You now have instant control of the debit card. Toggling the green switch turns the card on or off.
  • Set up Controls & Alerts.
    • Location Controls—For example, my child can use their Flex debit card in our city but not in any other city.
    • Merchant Controls—For example, my child can use their Flex debit card to buy clothes or groceries but cannot use it at an age-restricted merchant such as a liquor store.
    • Transaction Types—For example, my child can use their Flex debit card for in-store purchases but cannot use it for eCommerce or ATMs.
    • Spend Limits—For example, no single transactions larger than $50 or no transactions permitted after my child has spent $50 this month.
  • Select Alert Preferences
    • The default setting is to send alerts for All Transactions. Any time your child uses their Flex debit card, SecurLOCK will send you a push notification of the transaction to your smartphone.
    • If you want to be notified only for specific locations, merchant types, transaction types, or spend limits, you can set that up by switching to Selected Transactions and customizing it according to your preferences.
    • Based on the control preferences selected by the adult, transactions may be denied. For example, if you set an Age Restricted merchant type control and the minor attempts a purchase at a liquor store, the transaction will automatically be declined.
How do I fund my child's Flex account?

Easy! You can transfer money through online banking.

Transfers—account-to-account transfers provide immediate credit. For example, if your child is standing in line at the movie theater or a food counter, you can transfer money from your account to the flex banking account for immediate credit. Once you confirm the transfer, the flex banking account will show the new available balance.

To transfer funds:

  • Login to Online or Mobile Banking.
  • In Online Banking, select Move Money and then Schedule Single transfer. In Mobile Banking, select Transfers.
  • In the From field, select the account from which the transfer will be made, and then the Flex Banking account for the To field.
  • Enter the amount you wish to transfer.
  • Select Continue in Mobile Banking or Transfer in Online Banking.
  • Thats it! Your child will have immediate access to the funds using their Flex debit card.
What happens if my child tries to use their debit card beyond the SecurLOCK spend limits?

You will receive an immediate notification that your child is attempting to use their debit card. Open the notification, and you will be given the opportunity to accept or deny the transaction through SecurLOCK. The opportunity to accept the transaction, though it exceeds the SecurLOCK limit, is brief.

What is the difference between a control or an alert?

Each time your child uses their debit card, your Control Preference settings are checked against the purchase to determine if it should be approved or denied.

Additionally, each time your child uses their debit card, your Alert Preference settings are checked against the purchase to determine if it should generate an alert.

How can my child check their balance on their own?

You can enroll your child in Online Banking and then enroll them in Text and/or Mobile Banking as options to check their balance. Here’s how to sign up your child for these options.

Enroll Your Child in Mobile Banking
In order for your child to check their balance, you must enroll your child in online banking.
1. Using your child's smartphone, go to fsbank.com or download the First Security mobile banking app (if this is the preferred method for checking their balance).
2. Select Enroll in Online Banking and Follow the prompts.
3. Enter your child’s email address in the Email Address field. Enter your email address in the Secondary Email Address field.
4. Select Yes to receive electronic statements.
5. Enter the Flex Banking account number, nickname, and account type. Billpay is not available for this account type.
6. With your child, set up a username, password, and security questions and answers. It’s important that your child be able to remember their own username, password, and security answers. Store this information in a secure location. Note: If your child gets locked out of the Mobile Banking app, you must call to reset the password on your child's behalf. Therefore, you must know your child’s Security Questions and Answers.
7. Allow up to two business days for the minor’s Flex Banking account to be visible in the First Security Bank app.

Enroll in Text Banking
In order to enroll in Text Banking, your child must first be enrolled in online banking (see steps above), but downloading the mobile banking app on their smartphone is optional.
1. On a web browser, login to the minor’s online banking account. Text Banking enrollment cannot be completed through the app.
2. Click on Services & Settings, and then select Text Banking.
3. Select Enroll New Device. Enter the minor’s phone number and select I agree to authorize First Security Bank to send me SMS text notifications. Then click Next.
4. A code will be sent via text message. Enter the code in the appropriate field. Then click Add Device.
5. The device will be enrolled. Save the number (925-292-6915) as a contact for easy access to Text Banking.
6. To check the balance quickly, the minor can send a text message to the number listed above containing only the letter B. The balance will be sent via text to the
minor.

What about overdraft protection?

Your child’s Flex account does not have overdraft protection (OD). This means an insufficient balance (transaction amount greater than the available account balance) will result in a transaction decline. Any transaction greater than the available balance on the account will be declined.

What about pre-authorizations?

Pre-authorizations – many retail point-of-sale systems will pre-authorize for an amount greater than the transaction when the final transaction amount is unknown. For example, restaurants pre-authorize +20% for tips and convenience stores/gas stations typically pre-authorize for $75 -$100, an amount greater than the actual purchase amount. This pre-authorization is removed when the transaction amount is processed.

For pay at the pump locations, it is recommended to pre-pay inside for the exact amount of the transaction.
